設定宗旨
設計中心設立之目的為將雲林科技大學現階段設計教育之教學、研究、技術合作與諮詢等服務功能資源整合，以發揮專業設計教育與實務導向為目標。其設立宗旨如下：
1. 配合國家經濟發展策略：
我國產業在先進國家的快速科技發展下，傳統製造產業面臨空前壓力，如依舊尋往昔仿冒，甚至勞力密集的工業，勢必將為國際社會所淘汰，唯有走向技術密集、高附加價值，以設計為取向的產業型態，才能繼續保有生存空間。本中心之設立即是為了縮短產、學差距，培育更優秀且適於業界所用之設計人才，促進企業轉型成功，提昇產業升級並帶動國家經濟發展。
2. 統合運用各系所資源與技術從事技術研究發展工作：
設計技術的研究發展在於提昇設計水準的基礎。本中心兼具設計學院、工程學院、管理學院等各類專長之研究人才，並統合運用這些專長之專家，從事設計技術的研究發展工作，將其研究成果提供業界作為產業升級的助力，以技術支援或顧問諮詢的方式輔助產業界提高其產品的附加價值，帶動產業升級。
3. 提高地區設計文化水平：
國內中南部地區普遍缺乏設計文化的陶冶及設計相關的教育服務，以雲林科技大學所處之雲嘉地區而言，較缺乏設計文化相關資源，而本設計中心的成立正可彌補此部份的不足，除了提供雲嘉地區設計服務相關資源，帶動地區整體的設計文化水準外，更可擴張其資源至全省各地，以提昇國內設計風氣，促使國內產業升級，加速提昇國家形象及產業水準。
The purpose to establish this center is to integrate our university’s current teaching, researching, technical collaboration and services together in order to push forward to the goal of education and career in professional design. The principles are as listed below:
- To meet the requirements of our country's economic developmental plan: Facing the competition of high-technology developments in developed countries, the traditional manufacturers in our country are under great pressure. Our industries will lose their international markets if we continue to engage in piracy and industries that requires high labor. To survive in the international market, we must develop industries that are technologically intensive, of high additional value, and design-oriented. The aims are to remove the barriers between the academic field and the industrial world, to nurture excellent and suitable design talents for the industry, to facilitate successful industry transformation, to upgrade the industry and, in long terms, to boost our country's economic development.
- To integrate the resources and technologies of all departments for developing technical researches: The developing of design techniques is to increase our design standards. This college includes expertise in a variety of fields from the College of Design, to the College of Engineering, as well as the College of Management. This center combines these expertise to develop and conduct research on design techniques. It also provides our results for industries to help them upgrade and to help increase their products' additional values by offering technological assistance or counseling.
- To enhance the local cultural design standards: In the middle and southern part of Taiwan, design related education facilities and the cultural sentiments to design are not enough. In the Yunlin and Chiayi areas where the National Yunlin University of Science and Technology is located, the resources related to design culture are particularly scarce. This center serves to provide for this shortage. We can increase the resources in Yunlin and Chiayi's design services and also upgrade the level of designing ability of the whole region. In addition, we can extend the provision of our resources to the whole island to increase our national design culture, to push the industry towards a more design-oriented path, to upgrade our industry, improve our nation's image, and to develop our industry.

1. 協調、統合及支援設計學院所有相關教學、人力、實驗 ( 習) 及研究，使相關研究能與教學相互結合，
並從事下列專業技術之研究及設計工作：
(1) 包裝設計及包裝材料技術之發展
(2) 廣告及印刷設計之研究與應用
(3) 多媒體及設計影像處理
(4) 電腦輔助設計之研究與應用
(5) 人因工程在設計上之應用
(6) 系統設計及設計方法之應用
(7) 產品企畫及設計管理
(8) 產品開發及傳達技術之發展
(9) 展示空間設計及規劃
(10) 高齡者居住環境與無障礙環境之規劃
(11) 舞台展演空間之設計與規劃
(12) 社區總體營造之規劃與研究
(13) 公共空間環境視覺規劃
(14) 都市設計、建築設計、景觀設計及室內空間設計之規劃與研究
(15) 其他設計研究工作
2. 辦理校內外設計技術研究計劃案之執行
3. 舉辦設計技術專題研討會及成果發表會
4. 與國內外公私立機構及企業單位建立合作關係，加強人才交流，結合產、官、學三者進行專案研究，
提升國內設計技術水準
5. 接受國內公私立機構及企業界之委託，從事設計技術之專題計畫、技術諮詢服務工作
6. 參與校內外其他有關設計工作之研究計畫

2. The execution and evaluation of running design technology research schemes.
3. Collecting the latest information of design development. Publishing periodicals for the college's
students and staff, as well as business people, for reference.
4. Building cooperative relationships and human resource interchange between the private and public sectors domestically and internationally. Collaborating among industries, governments and the
universities to elevate design levels in the country.
5. participating in research projects in and out of the campus about designing.
