2026 Hualien International Stone Sculpture Festival

Event Dates: October 31 – November 29, 2026
Organizer: Hualien County Government
Venue: Youlai Plaza, Hualien City, Hualien County, Taiwan

The 2026 Hualien International Stone Sculpture Festival is about to begin. Curated by Hu Chao-Sheng, this year’s festival is themed Beneath the Skin of the Earth: Cracks, Traces, and Rebirth. The exhibition shifts its perspective from the cosmic scale to a more intimate, microscopic, and profound exploration of perception.

The main visual identity features a shimmering blue inspired by the interplay of the waters of the Liwu River in Hualien and the veins of marble, symbolizing the revival of life and hope while evoking the positive symbolism of clear blue skies after the rain. Ochre and ivory textures resemble the mineral veins of marble and the spreading traces of lichen, symbolizing the earth’s capacity to heal and regenerate after being fractured.

The festival features a series of events, including a 30-year retrospective exhibition, an outdoor light and shadow installation exhibition, a large-scale stone sculpture creation camp, and themed exhibitions. Visitors are invited to journey to Hualien and experience the earth’s healing and renewal through its cracks and traces.
