2025 Universal Design Award Competition
Since its establishment in 2005, the Freespace Education Foundation has been committed to promoting Universal Design education and creating safe, friendly, and age-friendly living environments. For nine consecutive years, we have held the Asian Student Universal Design Competition, focusing on lifestyle areas such as food, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment. The competition has attracted over 4,000 entries, led to the commercialization of numerous designs, and has been recognized with the IAUD International Universal Design Education Award in Japan.
This year, we are bringing back the "2025 Universal Design Award Competition," themed "Lovely Places." We invite everyone to explore how to make homes, parks, markets, campuses, train stations, medical spaces, and commuter routes safer, more beautiful, and more usable—your own space, your own design and renovation!
Entry Category: All ages, open to all!
Student Group: Open to students of all ages, including those from universities, colleges, and high schools. Individuals and teams are welcome to apply.
Society Group: Open to members of the public, designers, startup teams, and students in professional programs.
This competition gives everyone the opportunity to personally design their own living spaces. Whether you're a student, teacher, designer, entrepreneur, or simply a citizen seeking a better environment, you can use your creativity to propose solutions and personally participate in the transformation of space.
We believe that good design can break down barriers and build social connections.
Participating in this competition not only cultivates empathy and cross-disciplinary integration skills, but also allows you to align your work with SDG 11, "Sustainable Cities and Communities," and SDG 10, "Reduced Inequalities." This allows you to truly implement the social value of ESG and ensure that design truly responds to real challenges such as an aging population, declining birthrates, and public space safety.
