New Taipei City Fuzhong15-115 Exhibition Application Plan
1. Purpose:
In order to provide a platform for outstanding artists to publish, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the New Taipei City Government publicly solicits art creation exhibition plans in the form of a themed curatorial submission, which will be exhibited at Fuzhong 15. Through diverse dialogues and connections, it covers different art professional fields, thereby establishing a sharing and exchange platform between artists, audiences and museums, as well as talent cultivation.
2. Project Description:
This project sets up an annual chief curator system. The Bureau invites the chief curator to set the annual theme, aiming to promote the curation of experimental topics on contemporary image themes, and serves as a creative support and publication stage for new artists. Through the observations and new perspectives of the new generation, through images and art as a communication medium, practice connections and dialogues with the general public.
This time, Professor Chiu Chih-yung, Vice Dean and Director of the Institute of Science, Technology and Art of National Tsing Hua University, was invited to serve as the chief curator of this project in 2016. The annual theme is "Image and Fluidity: Homogeneous and Different Images of Contemporary Image Art". From film to experimental images, from video to video installation, from electronic audio and video to generative images, the evolution of images has the development context of "homogeneous heterogeneity". This exhibition theme planning takes Fuzhong 15 as the base for the development of image art, focuses on looking back at the historical context of image art, and opens up the diverse forms of contemporary image creation.
III. Annual theme description:
(I) Annual theme: "Image・Evolution: Homogeneous heterogeneity of contemporary image art".
(II) Concept description: From film to experimental images, from video to video installation, from electronic audio and video to generative images, the evolution of images has the contemporary aesthetic connotation of "homogeneous heterogeneity". In the current digital age, under the influence of the booming development of digital technology, images have been highly infiltrated into human life, and this artificial image has not only become a natural landscape, but also shaped people's living environment into a world reproduced by vision. In this process, image art has undergone many important deformations due to the iterative development of digital technology, and the impact is very wide. Photography has evolved from "drawing by light" and "making by pixels" to "creating by prompts"; film and video as "time-based media" have moved from the material basis of film to "figural" and challenged the basis of authenticity. D. N. Rodowick pointed out that when film was transformed into digital film, the automatic processing process of display information has become the best portrayal of contemporary images. Its existence is variable, as a signal on the electronic screen. Therefore, in the digital age, the image is not "one" image, which means that it does not have an existence that can correspond to itself. According to the above, the "polymorphism" of images not only represents the historical development of the nature of image art and the heterogeneous display of form, but also highlights that image art has presented a more fluid and variable situation due to the intervention of various digital technologies. In view of this, the concept of this general curator is looking forward to stimulating aesthetic thinking and creative dialogue through dialogue and dialectics between contemporary video art creators, curators and the use of media.
