2025 15th Global Chinese Literature Nebula Award

1. Purpose of the Method

The Master Hsing Yun Education Foundation (hereinafter referred to as the “Fund”) has established the “Global Chinese Literature Nebula Award” to promote the reading and writing of modern literature, discover outstanding writers and works, reward those who have made outstanding contributions to literature, and enable the beauty of literature to effectively play its role in purifying the hearts of the people in society.

3. Organization

(I)    The organizer invites experts and scholars to form the “Global Chinese Literature Nebula Award Review Committee” and invites one of them to serve as the chairman to preside over the review of the Global Chinese Literature Nebula Award.

(II)    The committee has a working group under it, which handles various administrative matters under the order of the “Global Chinese Literature Nebula Award Review Committee”.

4. Awards and Prizes

(I)    Contribution Award:

The selection is active and recommendations are accepted. One person with cumulative and transcendent achievements in literature is awarded. In addition to creation, the performance can also include literature education, criticism, editing, communication and other related fields. The prize is NT$1 million and a trophy.

(II)    Creation Award

1. Target: Literary creation at home and abroad, regardless of nationality or region, and anyone writing in Chinese (Chinese) is eligible to participate.

2. Category and Prize

(1) Long historical novel

100,000 to 150,000 words, with a 2,000-2,500 word summary. Three winners will be selected, NT$1 million for the first prize, NT$800,000 for the second prize, NT$500,000 for the third prize, and a trophy for each.

(2) Short historical novel

20,000 to 30,000 words. Three winners will be selected, NT$200,000 for the first prize, NT$150,000 for the second prize, NT$100,000 for the third prize, and a trophy for each.

(3) Reportage

20,000 to 30,000 words. Three winners will be selected, with a first prize of NT$200,000, a second prize of NT$150,000, and a third prize of NT$100,000. Each winner will receive a trophy.

(4) Humanistic Buddhist Prose

3,000 to 5,000 words. Three winners and five honorable mentions will be selected. First prize: NT$100,000, second prize: NT$80,000, third prize: NT$60,000, and each honorable mention will receive NT$50,000. Each winner will receive a plaque.

(5) Humanistic Zen Poetry

Within 20 lines. Three winners and five honorable mentions will be selected, with a first prize of NT$60,000, second prize: NT$50,000, third prize: NT$40,000, and each honorable mention will receive NT$30,000. Each winner will receive a plaque.

Note: Except for long historical novels, which require a summary of the content, other genres do not require a summary of the content.

(III)    Long Historical Novel Writing Program Subsidy Project

1. Target: Literary creators at home and abroad, regardless of nationality or region, and anyone writing in Chinese (or Chinese) can participate.

2. Quota and Prize: A maximum of two entries will be selected, with each entry receiving a maximum subsidy of NT$500,000.

3. Application method: Submit an application form, implementation plan, and a trial work of at least 20,000 words.

4. Creation period: One year from January 2025 to December 2025. Application may be extended once, for a maximum of one year.

5. Creation work: A historical novel of 100,000 to 150,000 words. Upon completion of the creation work, a report on the achievements and the complete creation work must be submitted, either by email or by mail.

6. Payment method of subsidy: The subsidy will be disbursed in two installments after deducting the tax payable.

(1) First installment: NT$150,000 will be disbursed at the beginning of the period.

(2) Second installment: The balance will be disbursed after the work is completed and evaluated.

7. The same works of the recipients of this project are not eligible to participate in the long and short historical novel competitions of the Creation Award of this literary award.

V.      Eligibility restrictions for participants

(I)    The participating works must not have been publicly published in any books, newspapers, magazines, online media, personal blogs, Facebook, etc. Plagiarism and ghostwriting (including AI) are strictly prohibited; those who have won other literary awards are not eligible to participate.

(II)    Any winner of the Creation Award in a single category twice, whether consecutive or non-consecutive, shall not apply for the same category within three years after the second award.

(III)    If plagiarism or imitation is found and confirmed after the winning works are announced, the list will be announced and the prize money and trophy will be recovered.

VI.      Evaluation method

(I)    The evaluation of the Contribution Award shall be handled by the evaluation committee of this literary award.

(II)    The review of the Creative Award is divided into three categories: preliminary review, review and final review. The preliminary review is a formal review, and the review and final review are conducted by members appointed by the Review Committee.

(III)    The long historical novel writing project subsidy project adopts preliminary review, review, final review and final review. The preliminary review is a formal review, and the review, final review and final review are conducted by members appointed by the Review Committee.

(IV)    If the work does not meet the standards, the Final Review Committee may decide to leave a certain award vacant.

VII.     Notes

(I)    Candidates can apply for the Creative Award and the Long Historical Novel Writing Project Subsidy Project at the same time. The Creative Award is limited to one article per category per person, and the project is also limited to one project. Each work can only be submitted by one person.

(II)    Entries should be written in traditional Chinese characters. If simplified Chinese characters are used, please convert them to traditional Chinese characters. The format should be on standard A4 paper, vertical and horizontal computer type, with the font size of Xin Xi Mingti and font size of 12.

(III)    Please do not leave the author's name and resume and other related information other than the authorization agreement (such as: participating works, content summary, implementation plan, etc.). If this rule is violated, it will not be included in the selection.

(IV)    Please keep the manuscript of all participating works for yourself, and no manuscript will be returned.

(V)    The winning works of the Creation Award:

1. After winning the Creation Award, the winner enjoys the personality rights of the author, and the copyright property rights are transferred to the public welfare trust Master Hsing Yun Education Fund free of charge, and can be authorized to others for use.

2. The organizer has the right to publish and reprint the winning works of the Creation Award, and no additional remuneration or royalties will be paid when publishing or publishing.

(VI)    The winning works of the Long Historical Novel Writing Project Subsidy Project:

1. The copyright of the creative results belongs to the author, but some of the content (the first 10-20% of the words in the work) must be authorized free of charge to this foundation and various units of Fo Guang Shan for non-profit purposes, in various ways, permanently, and in any region for public distribution and use.

2. Please handle the publication and distribution of your creative work by yourself; when publishing, please indicate "The writing of this work was subsidized by the public trust Master Hsing Yun Education Fund" in the appropriate place (cover, back cover, title page or copyright page).

(VII)    The prize money of this award is calculated in New Taiwan dollars, and the prize money must be deducted in accordance with the tax law of the Republic of China. The organizer will deduct the payable tax on your behalf before paying.

Note 1: Winners must pay taxes in accordance with the provisions of the Income Tax Law of the Republic of China. Ten percent of the prize money or grants of competitive competition opportunities will be deducted from the full amount of the payment. For individuals who do not reside in the Republic of China, twenty percent of the prize money or grants of competitive competition opportunities will be deducted from the full amount of the payment.

Note 2: For winners of the creation award and the long historical novel writing project who have resided in the Republic of China for more than 180 days, the prize money must be deducted from the second-generation national health insurance premium in accordance with the provisions of Article 4, Paragraph 1, Item 23 of the Income Tax Law.

8.     Submission period

Submissions will be accepted from June 1, 2025 to August 3, 2025. No submissions will be accepted after the deadline.

9.     Registration method:

Please fill in the registration form (URL: https://forms.gle/Roce9VrbxAavJDP58), upload the authorization letter (must be signed in person) and the electronic file of the work (the project must include an implementation plan). Please refer to the attachment for the file.

10.     Announcement of the winners: mid-October 2025 (the winners will be announced on the organizer's website).

Award ceremony: mid-December 2025 (the ceremony date will be announced on the organizer's website).

11. If there are any matters not covered in this regulation, it may be revised and announced on the official website of the "Public Trust Master Hsing Yun Education Fund".
