2025 "The 4th Professor Wang Xiuxiong Art Theory Academic Paper Award"

1. Purpose of soliciting papers:

Professor Wang Xiuxiong, Emeritus Professor of the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, has been working hard for many years to promote art theory research such as aesthetics theory, art history, art psychology, art history methodology, and museology. In order to appreciate Professor Wang Xiuxiong's ideas and dedication, and to encourage students to engage in art theory research and publish works, a fundraising fund has been established to set up the "Professor Wang Xiuxiong Art Theory Academic Paper Award" (hereinafter referred to as this award) to benefit students, thereby promoting the atmosphere of art theory and improving the level of related research in the country.

II. Principles of Call for Papers:

1. PhD and master's students in colleges and universities across the country (those who are still enrolled as of the submission deadline). Applicants who have won the first prize in any category of this award are no longer eligible to apply for awards in that category.

2. Award categories: 1. Art History and Theory, 2. Art Education, 3. Art Administration and Management. The research topic must be one of the above three and the candidate must be the first author or corresponding author. The same applicant may apply for categories 1 to 3 at the same time, and the works must be produced within two years before the deadline for acceptance.

Participation and submission method:

From now until 24:00 on Friday, September 26, 2025, please upload the following information in PDF format to the application link (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc4pc8ya77T03DRoXDNYPVZZBkIz1NLl2qZocgYUCYcc3W2CQ/viewform?usp=sharing). Late applications will not be accepted.

1. Submitted Papers (PDF file)

Submission language: Chinese and English submissions are accepted. The maximum length of a Chinese paper (including title, abstract, content, notes and references) is 12,000-20,000 words. The maximum length of an English paper (including title, abstract, content, notes and references) is 6,000-8,000 words. Submitted papers are limited to those that have not been officially published.

2. The format of Chinese papers should follow the Chinese APA format or MLA format; the format of English papers should follow the English APA, MLA or Chicago format. Chinese APA and MLA format templates can be found on this event website.

3. Author basic information form (Appendix 1), please upload in PDF format.

IV. Review:

The judging panel will be experts and scholars in art-related fields appointed by the Award Committee, and the final judging meeting will be held by the convener of the committee or a person nominated by the committee.

1. Preliminary review: review of applicants’ qualifications, documents, etc. If there are any omissions or errors, the applicant must correct them within five calendar days from the date of receiving the notification from the Department. Failure to correct them within the deadline will be deemed as giving up the application.

2. Review: Review will be conducted by experts and scholars in various categories, with double anonymous review and avoiding the supervisor as the principle.

3. Final Review: Convene a meeting of the Award Committee to decide on the winners and awards, etc.

V. Reward Method:

1. There are 4 first prize and special prize winners, and several honorable mention works.

The first prize winner will receive a prize of NT$100,000 and a certificate. Three outstanding prize winners will be selected from three groups and each will receive a prize of NT$40,000 and a certificate. In addition, several outstanding works will be awarded with a prize of 5,000 yuan each and a certificate each.

2. The award information and papers will be announced on the website of the Department of Fine Arts of our university in February-March 2026. The winners will be notified individually by email and the awards will be presented publicly. The award ceremony will be held at a later date.

3. All winning papers will be compiled and published as a book at a later date. Winners must agree to authorize the organizer to publish the book before they can receive the award.

6. Notes:

1. If the winning paper is found to have violated academic ethics and confirmed by the award committee, the award will be cancelled and the prize money and certificate will be recovered. The legal responsibility shall be borne by the author himself.
